The Earth is the ground beneath our feet. It is the Earth that all that we eat grows from and on, and what all returns to at the end of life, whether plant, animal or even mineral.
The Earth is the element of late summer, the time of year when there is an abundance of produce ready to harvest, grown out of the fertile soil and ripened by the heat of the summer. The branches of trees are pulled downwards with their burden of fruit, and crops in fields bow under the weight of heavy heads of wheat. Mother Nature has so much to offer. She has a great need to give and for these riches to be received.
Physical nourishment is not the only function of the Stomach, it is also responsible for mental and spiritual nourishment, so vital to our function as healthy human beings.
An imbalance in the Earth element can lead to an inability to take in or digest information, to process our thoughts and emotions, or to receive nourishment on a spiritual level.
The organs of the Earth element are the Stomach and the Spleen. The Stomach rots and ripens our food to an ideal consistency. Then, the Spleen, the organ of transportation and distribution, can transport it to all corners of the body, so that every part of us, from organ down to the smallest cell, can function as it needs to. If the right food is not reaching the right places, the body cannot function in the way it should.
The emotion the Earth element gives us is sympathy. It is our human love and compassion for others around us. It is the nurturing touch of a mother with her children.
She bears great bounty
