The two organs of Wood are the Liver and the Gall Bladder.
The Gall Bladder guides us in decision-making and judgment. Decisions are made at some level of the body, mind or spirit every moment of our lives. The Wood element out of balance can lead to difficulty in decision-making where bad or irrational decisions are made, or an inability to decide on anything at all.
The Liver helps us to make plans. To be able to achieve any future goals, we need plans. Plans are our vision for the future. The Wood element represents the stages of birth, childhood and youth in the cycle of the Five Elements. Youth is full of aspirations and goals for its future, and in order to achieve these it needs to make plans and act upon strategies.
Wood is the element that looks to the future. The eyes are the sense organ of the Wood element. Vision is needed to make plans, and foresight is needed for judgment.
Wood needs to be flexible and agile. Trees and plants in nature have to endure the weather of all seasons. Flexibility allows a plant to bend in the wind, or face the direction the sun comes from. If it was rigid and stiff, it could be blown over by a strong wind, or snap, or it may never find the best position to receive the light it needs for its vital processes. In us, inflexibility can lead to stiffness, difficulty moving and pain or tension in the ligaments and joints. On a mental level, it can lead to us having rigid views or an inability to adapt and change plans which can make us unable to proceed with our plans in life.
“I can’t see the wood for the trees”
The Wood element helps structure our lives in order to achieve goals. Without their vision for the future, there would be stagnation and inertia. We would stumble along in life, unsure of where we were aiming for. They give us the boundless energy of youth and the flexibility of a tree swaying in the wind to enable us to achieve our hopes and aspirations.
Wood helps us make plans and decisions. Its associated emotion is anger. The season of Wood is the Spring, a time of great energy associated with new life.
